Description – Lactobacillus salivarius, the main bacteria in our mouth, is important for maintaining dental hygiene. It also plays a role in preventing intestinal diseases and supporting the immune system.
Application – The most important feature of L. salivarius is its ability to produce a type of bacteriocin (an antimicrobial substance) that has been shown to protect against infection from invasive pathogens in food. In humans, it has been used to prevent and treat a variety of chronic diseases like asthma, cancer, atopic dermatitis and halitosis, and to a very limited extent, to prevent or treat infections.
